If you have any constructive criticism on how I play Tulio, please comment here.

I'm always learning and trying to improve my RP skills. Any advice is gladly appreciated.

All comments are screened. ♥

And just to note, this is my first time seriously playing him, so I'll openly admit that I'm not certain that I have his character exactly right yet.

And uh. Icon is very appropriate.

Miguel had dreams of finding "El Dorado", the fabled City of Gold, directions to which were laid out on a map that the two had won in a game of dice. Long story short, they escaped from Cortes's ship, landed in the New World, and eventually used the map to find El Dorado. The two were immediately thought to be gods that decended upon the Native people at a certain time on their calendar. They decided to pull the greatest scam ever, by fooling the city of El Dorado into thinking they really were gods, taking as much gold from the city as possible and then sailing back to Spain to live like kings. However, their plan to bring heaps of gold back to Spain was thwarted when the safety of the citizens of El Dorado was threatened. They had to sacrifice all of their gold in order to save the people from the ruthless conquistador Cortes (much to Tulio's distress). In the end, everyone learned a lesson and went off to find new adventures, just like a rated PG movie should. :]

Tulio is a very careful and cautious guy. He always thinks of the worst way something could turn out, and plans his actions accordingly. He is really pessimistic and has been accused of "worrying too much" by Miguel, though Tulio justifies it by saying he worries "just the right amount", and that Miguel worries too little. Tulio is smart and quick-thinking, able to effectively get himself and Miguel out of a bind. He is the one that comes up with the plans to get out of the bad situations he and Miguel find themselves in. He loves gold and would use any method possible to get more.

He also enjoys gambling a lot, but only because he cheats every time.
AU Background: Tulio didn't who know his parents were. There wasn't much to go on. His early memories of his years before the streets were an unhappy blur of poverty and suffering. All he really got out of them was his last name, and that didn't do him an ounce of good; a poor man's name had no merit where he was, nor would it ever. Tulio Valdez was a name that was lost in a sea of ordinarity, unable to reach even the lowest nobleman's rich ears. But that didn't bother him too much. He didn't like to dwell on the past, anyway. He'd make a name for himself, not rely on what it already was.

His best memories are of living on the streets of his hometown, Seville. Since he was a young lad, he had been surviving on just enough to last each day. He cheated and robbed the merchants in the market blind, more than a few times per day. Sure, he was caught many times, but he always managed to escape from the authorities one way or another. His plans were always brilliant and elaborate, and sometimes he'd even help out the other prisoners; for a fee, of course.

Then, when he was barely ten years old, he met Miguel. A fellow street urchin, Miguel proved to be extremely useful in following Tulio's plans. The two became an unstoppable duo in thievery, becoming notorious in Seville and getting into heaps of trouble. As the years went by, the two developed a close brotherly bond and became nigh inseperable, save for a couple of pretty young ladies that occasionally got in their way. Tulio, becoming more cunning with age, decided to use the power of his mind to the full extent by dropping his schemes of robbery and "moving up" to full-blown swindling people out of their money. He devoted all of his time to his new job, pulling Miguel along with him for the ride.

His epiphany came when he was still just a teenager. He decided to play a game of street dice for fun, to win some extra money for the day's food. Tulio suddenly found himself playing nonstop, just winning and winning until he racked up 10,000 pesetas in a single game. Overcome by shock, amazement, and greed, the young lad blew off all of it on food and pleasurable company in only 3 days. Miguel found him lying like a cliche in a gutter afterward. It was then that Tulio began his obsession with gold. He had to have more; gold was food, gold was power, and gold was his life.

Tulio's obsession with money led his schemes to be even more elaborate and crafty. His exploits made him famous around Seville and its neighboring towns. He and his partner in crime, Miguel, became two of the most wanted men in the area, and they were damn proud of it.

However, notoriety always comes with a price. His most recent con was found out early, and he and Miguel were tried and found guilty for fraud and embezzlement. They were both imprisoned for a while, and eventually put on a boat bound for Cuba. The two were going to work on the newly established sugar plantations as a lifelong punishment for their crimes. As Tulio worked out another escape plan with Miguel, his fellow prisoners decided to take it into their own hands. Before Tulio could work out anything sane, they tricked the guards on the boat and escaped their cells, massacreing everyone who wasn't a prisoner. With their victory obtained, the prisoners turned the ship back around to the Mediterranean, heading for Africa where they could disappear into the chaotic and uncharted pirate territory.
Country of Origin: Spain
Musical Instrument: Guitar
Third-Person (Log) Sample: Tulio skulked against the rotting wooden wall of the ship, frowning at the hairy unwashed prisoners that were discussing their new route to Africa. Miguel, he noticed, was sleeping calmly on a hammock. How could he sleep at a time like this? These gorillas were going to get them killed in a matter of days, Tulio could feel it. He knew if he and Miguel didn't come up with a plan soon, the unpredictable bunch of miscreants would probably throw them overboard. Tulio recognized a lot of their faces, and none of them looked too happy to see him here. Maybe he should only have swindled the rich. Doing so to your fellow crooks didn't turn out to be such a wise choice.

"Hey. Hey, Miguel." Tulio creeped over to his partner's hammock and shook the blonde man violently. "Come on, wake up!"

Tulio couldn't help but cover his nose when Miguel yawned, smelly breath travelling through the dank air. He reminded himself to give his parner some spearmint herbs he found in the ship's kitchen.

"W-We gotta get out of here, Miguel. These guys are insane. They'll kill us if we don't split now. Here, put your shoes on. I've got a plan."
First-Person Sample: I knew it. I knew that the takeover was a bad idea from the start.

We'll sail to Africa, they said. Gold and riches and women, they said. What they DIDN'T say was that there would be a damned typhoon in the middle of the day that would wipe out and sink the entire ship! What kind of pirates did they think they were?

Okay, calm down, Tulio. You might be the only one that survived. You might have been shipwrecked on a deserted island, with no sign of food or good water or --

...Miguel. MIGUEL!
